The Story Behind Supplement Skeptic
We're the skeptics the supplement industry doesn't want you to read. Here's why we started, how we work, and what makes us different.
Our Story
It started with frustration. A friend spent $300 on a "premium" supplement stack recommended by an influencer. When we looked at the labels, every single product was either under-dosed, hiding behind proprietary blends, or using the cheapest possible form of each ingredient. The influencer, of course, had a 30% commission deal with the brand.
The supplement industry is a $60+ billion market built on questionable claims, proprietary blends that hide under-dosing, and influencer endorsements masquerading as medical advice. We got tired of seeing products rated "5 stars" by reviewers who received them for free, recommended by "doctors" who are really just paid spokespeople, and marketed with cherry-picked studies that don't hold up to scrutiny.
So we started doing what apparently nobody else would: buying supplements with our own money, reading the actual research, comparing doses to what clinical trials used, and telling you whether a product is worth your money. No sugar-coating. No sponsor pressure. Just the evidence.
Why We're Different
There are hundreds of supplement review sites. Most of them exist to sell you supplements, not to tell you the truth about them. Here's how we compare:
| Practice | Supplement Skeptic | Typical Review Sites |
|---|---|---|
| Product acquisition | Self-purchased | Free samples from brands |
| Research basis | PubMed clinical trials | Brand marketing claims |
| Dose verification | Compared to clinical doses | Not checked |
| Scoring method | Transparent weighted formula | "Expert opinion" (black box) |
| Brand relationships | Zero brand partnerships | Sponsored "reviews" |
| Negative reviews | Published when earned | Rarely or never published |
By the Numbers
Our commitment to evidence-based reviews is reflected in the work we put into every piece of content on this site:
Our Review Process
Every review on this site follows the same rigorous methodology:
What We Are Not
- We are not doctors. Nothing on this site is medical advice. Always talk to your healthcare provider before starting any supplement.
- We are not anti-supplement. Some supplements have strong evidence behind them. We just think most are overpriced, under-dosed, or unnecessary.
- We are not paid by brands. We use affiliate links to keep the lights on, but affiliate commissions never influence our ratings or recommendations. If a product is bad, we'll say so even if we'd earn a commission by recommending it.
How We Make Money
Transparency matters, so here's exactly how this site is funded:
- Affiliate links: When you click a "Check Price" button and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never affects our ratings.
- Newsletter sponsorships: Our email newsletter occasionally includes clearly labeled sponsor messages.
That's it. No brand deals. No "sponsored reviews." No pay-to-play rankings. Our revenue comes from being useful to you, not from being useful to supplement companies.
Our Standards
We hold ourselves to a simple standard: if we wouldn't recommend a product to a family member, we won't recommend it to you. Every rating, every comparison, every guide on this site is written with that principle in mind.
If we make a mistake, we correct it publicly. If new research changes our opinion on a product, we update the review and note what changed. Science evolves, and our reviews evolve with it.

How we maintain independence and accuracy
Our Editorial Standards
How we maintain independence and accuracy- Self-funded purchases Every product reviewed on this site was purchased with our own money. No free samples, no gifted products, no brand partnerships.
- PubMed research verification Every ingredient claim is cross-referenced against peer-reviewed studies from PubMed. We compare product doses to doses used in clinical trials.
- No brand partnerships We do not accept payment for reviews, free products, or any form of compensation that could influence our ratings. Affiliate links are disclosed but never affect scores.
- Regular content updates Reviews are updated when products are reformulated, when new research emerges, or when we identify errors. Every update is dated and noted.
- Transparent scoring Our 5-category weighted scoring system is fully documented. You can verify our math on every review.
- Public corrections If we make a factual error, we correct it publicly with a visible correction notice. We never silently edit reviews.
